KT8 Move Start your move
NewFor anyone moving their email away from Gmail

Leaving Gmail? Bring every email with you.

Google lets you download all your mail, but not put it anywhere useful. KT8 Move copies every email into your new mailbox, straight from Gmail or from Google’s Takeout file, with your Gmail labels as folders. It’s for freelancers, small businesses and teams moving to Fastmail, iCloud, Zoho, mailbox.org or email on their own domain.

£9 One-off payment for one mailboxUp to 50 GB of email. No subscription.
  • Labels become folders
  • Read, starred and sent mail kept as it was
  • Your old mailbox is never changed
How it works

Five steps, and we do the heavy lifting.

You do the first four in a few minutes. The move itself runs on our side, and we email you when it’s done.

  1. Connect your new mailbox

Pick your new provider and make an app password there. We sign in, check we can make folders and drop a test email in your new inbox.

  2. Point us at your old mail

Sign in to Gmail with an app password and we count your emails and labels there, only ever reading it. Or choose your Google Takeout file, from your computer, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive.

  3. Check your folders

Each label becomes a folder of the same name. Rename any of them, leave some out, and choose whether spam and bin come too.

  4. Pay once

Copying from Gmail starts straight away. A file uploads in pieces first, and carries on from where it stopped if your connection drops.

  5. We move it, then forget it

We add every email to your new mailbox and email you when it’s done. Your passwords are deleted then, and one click deletes everything else.

Where to

Into almost any new mailbox.

KT8 Move works with any provider that lets mail apps sign in (IMAP). We fill in the settings for the popular ones.

  • Fastmail
  • iCloud Mail
  • Zoho Mail
  • mailbox.org
  • Yahoo Mail
  • GMX
  • IONOS
  • 123 Reg
  • Any other IMAP mailbox

Outlook and Microsoft 365

Microsoft needs a “Sign in with Microsoft” button rather than an app password. We’re adding it next.

Proton Mail and Tuta

Neither lets other services add mail. Proton’s Easy Switch brings Gmail across itself, and Tuta’s desktop app imports .mbox files.

KT8 Mail

KT8 Mail brings in .mbox files itself, labels and all: Settings, then Backup & export, then Bring in mail from a file. About KT8 Mail

Your privacy

Your email passes through. It doesn’t stay.

Your mailbox holds years of your life and your work. We keep it only as long as the move needs, then delete it.

Deleted when you say

Press “Everything’s moved” and we delete what we kept there and then. If you forget, we delete it 7 days after your move finishes.

Your passwords, locked away

We keep your app passwords encrypted, only read your old mailbox and only add to your new one, and delete the passwords as soon as the move finishes. You can cancel them with your providers too.

Never backed up or shared

Your file sits in one private store that is never copied into our backups. We never sell or share it, and only hand anything over if the law makes us.

Read by software, not people

Our software reads only what says where each email belongs: its labels, its date and whether you’d read it. Nobody at KT8 opens your email.

You see it all first

We count your emails and labels before you pay (a file is counted by your own browser), so you see exactly what will move and can change it.

Your Gmail file

Rather use a file? Here’s how.

Copying straight from Gmail is easiest, and needs no file. If you’d rather, Google’s Takeout gives you one. It takes a few minutes to ask for, and Google emails you when it’s ready, which can take from a few hours to a couple of days.

  1. Go to takeout.google.com and sign in to the Gmail account you’re leaving.
  2. Press Deselect all, then tick Mail only.
  3. Press Next step. Choose Export once, .zip and the largest file size, 50 GB, so your mail comes as one file. To skip the download, send it to Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive instead.
  4. Press Create export. When Google emails you, choose the .zip in KT8 Move just as it is: there’s no need to open it.

Tip: keep your Gmail account open until your move is done and you’ve checked your new mailbox. And keep your own copy of the .mbox file, too: it’s your backup.

Questions

Questions about KT8 Move

Will my labels come across?

Yes. Each Gmail label becomes a folder of the same name, and labels inside labels (such as Clients/Invoices) become folders inside folders. You can rename any of them or leave them out before you start.

What happens to an email with several labels?

Folders hold an email once, so it goes in one place: your Inbox if it was in your Gmail inbox, otherwise the folder for its first label. Emails with no labels go to your Archive folder.

What about sent mail, drafts, spam and bin?

Sent mail and drafts go to your new mailbox’s Sent and Drafts folders. Spam and bin are left behind unless you tick them. Read and starred emails stay read and starred.

How long does it take?

Copying straight from Gmail runs at Google’s pace: Gmail lets other apps copy about 2.5 GB a day, so a 10 GB mailbox takes about four days, and carries on by itself. With a file, uploading depends on your internet connection: 10 GB takes a little over an hour on a typical 20 Mbps home connection. Either way, adding the emails depends on how fast your new provider takes them. We email you when it’s done.

Can I close the page?

Copying from Gmail: yes, straight after you pay. With a file, keep the page open while it uploads; you can use other tabs. Once it’s uploaded, the move runs on our side, so you can close everything.

Do you change anything in Gmail?

No. We open your Gmail read-only: nothing is moved, deleted or marked as read. Keep your Gmail account until you’ve checked your new mailbox.

What if something goes wrong part way?

The move carries on from the email it reached, so nothing is added twice. If your new mailbox fills up or stops accepting your password, we pause and email you to say what to do.

Is there a size limit?

One move takes up to 50 GB, which is more than Gmail’s free storage. One email over 100 MB is left out, as most providers won’t take one that big anyway.

Who can buy KT8 Move?

We sell to businesses, including freelancers and sole traders. You’ll add your business details before paying, and your receipt is in your KT8 account.

We have lots of mailboxes to move.

Each mailbox is a separate move. For five or more, talk to us.

Do you move contacts and calendars?

Not yet: KT8 Move is for email. Google Takeout gives you your contacts and calendars as separate files you can import into most providers yourself.
